John Johannsen, President
John started in the construction industry in 1983, at the age of 16, working for a general contractor during his high school summer break. He continued in that first job for 6 years, learning as much as possible about every aspect of the construction industry. During that time, he quickly progressed from a general laborer to a foreman, gaining experience with all types of construction projects, from residential additions to large commercial warehouses.
After graduating from college, John knew that he wanted to start his own business. And so in 1989, John partnered with Lex Heinold and HJH General Contractors was formed. They started small, doing primarily residential additions and small concrete work. With that same focus on residential work and commercial concrete work, the business grew steadily, thanks to their reputation for excellence and quality. In 1994, they successfully built 48 homes in a development named Cricklewood that they started in Middletown, DE.
Several housing developments later and with hundreds of quality home builds under their belts, HJH General Contractors started doing some residential projects for KRM Development, the privately owned development company headquartered on the Eastern Shore. As the relationship with KRM Development grew, HJH further expanded its portfolio and experience by taking on larger commercial projects. Now a full partner with KRM Development, John has transitioned to take over as President of the newly formed KRM Construction team.
Under John’s leadership and direction, his team has built the full breadth of commercial buildings from the ground up while continuing to stay rooted in the residential market in both Delaware and Maryland for the past 15 years. As President of KRM Construction, John’s focus will remain true to his philosophy of honesty, integrity and hard work and to exceeding client expectations on every single project.
